Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Manager to lead FPGA and embedded software development for aerospace and defence LRUs. The role focuses on FPGA (VHDL / VERILOG) development, SoC-based embedded systems, Linux customization, and compliance with aerospace certification standards such as DO-254 under the regulatory framework of CEMILAC.

This role does not involve system engineering, circuit/PCB design, or board bring-up ownership, which are handled by dedicated teams. However, the candidate is expected to possess a working understanding of these areas to effectively collaborate and ensure seamless integration.

Key Responsibilities

    Technical Leadership
    • Lead FPGA (VHDL / VERILOG) and embedded software development activities for LRU programs.
    • Architect and oversee FPGA implementation on SoC platforms (Intel/Altera).
    • Guide embedded Linux development including bootloader, kernel customization, and boot time optimization.
    • Ensure efficient hardware-software integration in coordination with system and hardware teams.
    Compliance & Certification
    • Ensure adherence to DO-254 processes across FPGA lifecycle.
    • Support certification activities with CEMILAC and other agencies as applicable.
    • Lead preparation and review of certification artifacts including plans, standards, design data, verification reports, and traceability.
    • Drive process compliance, audits, and quality assurance practices.
    Project & Team Management
    • Manage and mentor a team of FPGA and embedded software engineers.
    • Plan schedules, allocate resources, and track progress for multiple programs.
    • Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies.
    • Coordinate with cross-functional teams including hardware, system engineering, QA, and program management.
    Development Oversight
    • Review FPGA design (VHDL / VERILOG), simulation, synthesis, and timing closure.
    • Oversee verification strategies, test benches, and validation activities.
    • Guide debugging, integration, and system-level testing.
    • Ensure adherence to coding standards, configuration management, and version control.
    Documentation & Quality
    • Ensure development of complete and compliant documentation aligned with aerospace standards.
    • Participate in and lead design and lifecycle reviews.
    • Maintain traceability and configuration control throughout the lifecycle.

Skill & Experience

    Education
    • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electronics/Electrical/Instrumentation/Embedded Systems or related field.
    Experience
    • Around 10 years of relevant experience in FPGA and embedded systems development.
    • Prior experience in team handling or technical leadership roles preferred.
    • Experience in aerospace/defence domain and certification environments is highly desirable.
    Key Skills & Competencies
    • Strong expertise in VHDL-based FPGA design and development.
    • Hands-on experience with Intel (Altera) SoC FPGAs.
    • Good understanding of embedded Linux (kernel, drivers, boot optimization).
    • Experience in hardware-software integration and debugging.
    • Familiarity with FPGA toolchains (Quartus, ModelSim, Questa tools etc.).
    Domain Knowledge
    • Working knowledge of DO-254 processes.
    • Familiarity with certification workflows involving CEMILAC or equivalent bodies.
    • Exposure to related standards (e.g., DO-178C) is an advantage.
    Additional / Preferred Skills
    • Basic understanding of system engineering, circuit/PCB design, and board bring-up (not mandatory but advantageous).
    • Experience in safety-critical systems.
    • Familiarity with requirement management and configuration tools.
    • Exposure to CI/CD practices in FPGA and embedded environments.
    Soft Skills
    • Strong leadership and team management capabilities.
    • Effective communication and stakeholder coordination skills.
    • Ability to work in structured, process-driven environments.
    • Analytical thinking and problem-solving orientation.
    Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
    • On-time delivery of FPGA and embedded deliverables.
    • Compliance with certification and audit requirements.
    • Quality metrics including defect density and rework.
    • Team productivity and capability development.
